June 21, Red Sox vs. Nationals - First Inning

First pitch of the game, Lester gets Soriano to foul it off, then follows with two more strikes for the K and the dominance begins! Vidro grounds to third for out number two and Guillen strikes out on four pitches. Pretty economical, I must say.

Okay, having trouble figuring out what the heck I'm doing here..never blogged before. Youk rips a single to left field as the crowd yells YOOOOUK!
Loretta takes the count to 3-2...I love how the Sox make EVERY pitcher throw a million pitches in the first three innings. Loretta drives a ball to left for a single and Soriano actually fielded it cleanly!
Here comes big Papi. No outs, first and second. There's this old guy sitting behind home plate that looks like he's really puzzled, like he can't figure out why the pitcher throws the ball to home plate...oh, wait, that's Jeremy Kapstein, the guy that was rumored to take over as GM for Theo. Ortiz just struck out. I'm not enjoying that.
Here's Manny. I was actually late getting home, but I did see the first pitch, but before I came in Jerry Trupiano said on the radio, "and here's comes Manny out to left field"...except that he was the ONLY player who came onto the field. What planet does this guy think he's on? Oh, just flew out to center. It drives me nuts when these guys get the first two hitters on and then get two outs.
Trot has to get a hit here. The guy's been on fire! He's only hitting .395 at Fenway this year, by the way. This kid Shawn Hill throws a lot of soft junk for the Nats. Ground ball to short...Royce Clayton bobbles it...Nixon's safe! Loaded for Tek.
Dinky ground ball to Vidro at second..inning over. I can hear Joe Castiglione calling this one now, "Ground ball to second, Vidro has it, and he throws to first and the Red Sox squander an opportunity in the first" and you know when he says it, he says it like he just lost his house in the stockmarket. It's the first inning, Joe! Relax.
